About the Author

Jennifer Shaw Wolf grew up on a farm in the tiny town of St. Anthony, Idaho. She spent cold Idaho mornings milking cows in the dark and attended a school where Hunter’s Education was part of the sixth grade curriculum. She’s always been a writer, whether it was sewing together books to read to her little brothers or starting an underground newspaper in sixth grade. She met the love of her life at Ricks College, (now BYU Idaho), after he dropped her on her head. She graduated from Ricks and then Brigham Young University, Provo with a degree in Broadcast Communications. Now she lives in beautiful, green, (rainy) Lacey, Washington with her husband and four kids. Swoon. If there's one thing that will pull me in, it's a friends-to-lovers story. And this is by far one of the best I've ever read. The feelings and romance are believable, the characters lovable (if not always likable - but more on that below), and there's a really solid progression to the inevitable (because this is NA and they have to have at least one major falling out) that's not out-of-the-blue, as a lot of these types of stories fall victim to. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone looking for a great, fun, heartfelt romance read. I've followed teasers and posts related to the book, so I couldn't be more excited to be a part of the trailer reveal! :]

At the start of the story, we're introduced to Sydney, who's plagued by romantic feelings for her best friend Kyler, who's got... quite the history, to put it nicely. It's clear from the beginning how much they care for each other, which is exactly the kind of build up I love. Syd wears her heart on her sleeve from the first of her narrations. Kyler, on the other hand, is masking his feelings macho bravado and essentially keeping all males he deems 'unworthy' (including himself) away from her, all while making his way through what Syd sees as every breathing female in the vicinity.

Every winter break, Syd, Kyler, and their friends spend a few days at Kyler's mom's ski lodge before heading home. This year, the plans change when Kyler and Sydney are stranded alone at the lodge by a blizzard. And suddenly feelings start to come to the surface. But someone's out there, and they seem to mean the duo harm.

I related to Sydney from the get-go, but that's just me. She's got self-image baggage from her last (and only real) relationship, and she's very natural. As a character, I really liked her; she's awkward and aware of it and lovably unsure of things. Kyler on the other hand, wasn't as easy to like from the start. His actions and manic over-protectiveness aren't very endearing, but as the story progresses, it becomes clear that Syd brings out the best in him, and you can't help but love him when they're together. And they're adorable when they're together.

And then there's the less adorable times when they're together. Holy mother of god, can this lady write a love scene. The kind that make you scooch down in your seat when you're in public because you wish you weren't, but it's certainly not uncomfortable enough to make you stop reading. No personal experience here, of course. Never.

Finally, the dual narratives were great. Each character had a distinct voice that matched very well with the personalities created for them. This is one of JLA's major strong points - she always does a fantastic job of creating distinct narratives, whether it's within a single novel or across the entirety of her work. It makes all her stories a really joy to read.

In summary: GO. READ IT. READ IT NOW. I kept syncing my Kindle until it finally downloaded at 12:30 AM and stopped reading only for sleep and doing the bar minimum of work that needed doing. And it was still done before I left work. JUST GO.
